FLASH ROEMER—COLDER EASTERN WEATHER NEXT WEEK WON’T LAST WITH

SUB-PAR EARLY SKI SEASON NEW ENGLAND

Though cooler weather and scattered snows will favor northern/central Vermont to New Hampshire

and Maine Ski resorts between Dec 6-10th, with improved snow making, we look for

both the AO/NAO index to be positive most of December and what we call the MJO (wave

over the western Pacific) to move into PHASE 4 that would imply a warm second half of

December for many eastern ski areas with normal to below snowfall northern New England

and below normal snowfall over southern Vermont and Mass. Hence, the ski season

will not get off to a good start in the east, with the best chance for snow making, etc. in the

far northern areas and Quebec.

Best bet for late December skiing will be British Columbia, Colorado and Utah–which will

have below normal snowfall the next 10 days, to see improved weather mid-late

December.

The Tahoe region looks like a sub-par start to the ski season for the next 10 days with some

improvement possibly after December 10-15th
