Dr. Bruce Berryman – Chairman of the Lyndon State College Meteorology Department and Director of the LSC Institute of Applied Meteorology. I live with my wife and two daughters in a remote village (pop. 68) deep in the woods of northeastern Vermont. My winter sport is snowshoeing in the endless forest surrounding my home (well, OK, it’s not really endless; there’s only 35 miles of forest, then I need to deal with a Canadian customs post). There are no big-box stores in the area, but if you like snow and weather, it’s the place to be! I received my academic training in meteorology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was Chair of the Environmental Sciences Department at Wilkes University (PA) for several years, and have been at LSC for 25 years. Most of my professional work has been related to climate. I grew up watching cb’s in Wisconsin and remember one afternoon enjoying watching a storm that was 90 miles away, courtesy of the Mid-western flatness. So, I have a love-hate relationship with Vermont’s mountains. They are gorgeous, but, they block too much of the sky! Although watching cb’s was exciting, I now find watching nor’easters coming up the East Coast to be exhilarating and the quiet beauty of a Vermont winter to be captivating. |
